Hong Kong Industrial Safety Association

 

Background

The former Hong Kong Polytechnic and Labour Department of Hong Kong Government started to run jointly the Safety Officer Course in 1979. A group of graduates from the Course decided to join together and hold regular meeting for exchanging experience and ideas concerning industrial safety. Early in 1982, a group of graduates from the Certificate of Proficiency in Industrial Safety course, jointly organized by the Industrial Centre, Hong Kong Polytechnic & the Hong Kong Labour Department founded the Hong Kong Industrial Safety Association with a vision to promote the industrial safety in Hong Kong. Since then the association had been inactive for a while and was revitalized again in 1985 until today.

 

Objectives

1.To enhance the awareness of the industrial safety in Hong Kong through organizing and participating various activities.

2.To upgrade the level and standard of professionalism of its members through organizing various activities.

3.To uphold the rights of its members.

4.To provide professional recommendations to Government in regard to the formulation of legislation or amendment of Ordinance concerning industrial safety with an aim to upgrade industrial safety standards in Hong Kong as well as to uphold the rights of its members.

 

Activities

Activities organised by HKISA include seminars, training courses and visits. An internal newsletter is published periodically.

Joint activities are also organised in association with Labour Department, Occupational Safety & Health Council, Hong Kong Polytechnic University Industrial centre and other related professional bodies.

HKISA also actively participates and supports programmes, activities and social events concerning occupational safety

 

Finance

HKISA is a non-profit making organisation. Most of its funding comes from subscription and donation. Its activities are in principal self-financed.
